In Harford County, shortly after 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, the Hyattsville Police Department received a call from a concerned citizen advising that there was a person inside an area home with a weapon.
Upon arrival, officers say that they learned that the suspect - a 15-year-old boy - was asleep in his room with a short-barreled AR-15-style rifle that had a black 30-round magazine inserted in the magazine well.
Investigators said that members of the department were able to breach the teen's home using a rifle shield and proceeded to the boy's bedroom, where they found him laying on his back, asleep, with the loaded rifle sitting next to him.
Officers were able to retrieve the rifle safely from the teen and “rendered the weapon safe,” they added.
The investigation into the incident determined that the rifle was loaded with a 30-round P-Mag, which contained two .233/.556 rounds. Officers were also unable to locate a serial number on the gun because it was covered by a black glue substance, they said.
The teen - whose name has not been released due to his age - was taken into custody without incident and charges against him are pending.
No return court date has been announced for the suspect.
